One of the things that comes up so often during my Practice Prosperity and Blueprint Days is how to better lead, manage, inspire Your Team Members, or otherwise getting them on board for change and making necessary improvements.
As the New Year approaches (in just over a week), there are three things that I recommend you doing with each and every one of your Team Members individually.
Whether you have 3, 5, or 35…with one exception, you can empower your Team Leaders or Department Heads to do this and then you just do it with your Team Leaders.
How are you doing?
What can we be doing better?
What can you be doing better?
Is there anyone on your team you feel needs extra attention for better or worse?
What are your personal goals for 2015?
Is there anything you would like to see happen in the role you play in our Practice next year?
Listen. Genuinely. And show them you care.
Now you have permission to state your answers as well, about them, about the practice, about their performance and your expectations.
Finally, establish new, specific goals for them going into January. And follow-up, follow-through, and focus on these to drive accountability.
Do this in every key area of your practice and just like magic: a smoother sailing ship, faster growth, and more profit, plus, fewer mistakes and most importantly happy Patients.
In life you get basically what you expect, inspect, and accept…don’t ever forget it.
Usually it’s not as much about Team Members not being capable, it’s about them not being empowered, to own their role, position, and responsibility and not feeling like they are cared for, listened to, and respected.
Hey, if they were you, they would have been the Dentist, Owner, Leader of the Practice. They are usually all capable, they just haven’t been nurtured to be great.
