7 Ways To Get Lucky In Your Dental Practice

Oh it’s probably old news by now but I just love St. Patrick’s Day…I love it! I do something very nice with my wife and that’s about it, no green beer, no parties, no social engagements, nothing really but… I did love yesterday because I love LUCK!!!

Yes, luck. Who doesn’t?!

Of course, to get lucky you have to actually believe in it. Kinda like opportunity, isn’t it? For many Dentists, luck could smack them in the face or trip their legs out from under them and they wouldn’t know the difference.

Or more poignantly said, Luck could call on the phone, walk through the door, be standing there with credit card in hand saying “please fix me” and still they wouldn’t acknowledge or recognize that this is Luck…staring back at them.

You do get about what you expect.
You will attract more of what you accept.
You multiply what you think about.

My advice, stop believing every day is going to be a struggle, stop believing every patient is going to bring up insurance or complain about price or talk down your treatment…stop believing this whole dental practice owner, running, managing, operation, and oh yeah, actually doing the dentistry is going to be so hard.

Instead, believe in magic and believe in getting lucky; not because there is such a thing as accidental success – instead because there is such a thing as forced progress, controlled results, deliberate success, and created luck.

Don’t believe me, just try these seven luck factors inside of your own Practice.

Rabbits Foot – a wonderful happy person with amazing personality that answers your phone and builds emotional rapport with your patients BEFORE they walk in…and oh by the way, they actually answer the phone.

You want to get lucky, try answering every call not just the ones that are convenient.
Four Leafed Clover – try having a specific process that’s proven that every single patient goes through that sets themselves up for success, makes them pre-educated and pre-conditioned to believe the way you want them to and understand the goals and objectives of your visit.

What will make them a great patient for you and for themselves…ask and answer that question and then arm the patient with their own four leafed clover.
Magic Rainbow – somewhere over the rainbow there are patients who just were ready to buy ‘today’ but then the rainbow goes away and no one shows them how to find it ever again.

You want to get lucky everyday: do more follow-up, take more control, guide the patient and don’t give up so darn easily.
Horseshoe – throw that horseshoe and make a ringer every single time when you price yourself for profit and you establish fees that are going to let you win…the real game of horseshoes isn’t about luck, it’s about skill, it’s about practice, it’s about setting yourself up for success because you know what you are doing.

When you give in to others you give up on your chances to get lucky and it results in harder work, less money, and no time to make enough to do anything but get bye.
Pot o’ Gold – hey, let’s just be blunt about this one…every single day you tell your patients to put their money where their mouths are…guess what, your pot o’ gold is where their mouths are too.

It’s very simple, see every patient with fresh eyes, show them the big picture, create full diagnosis and design comprehensive treatment plans.

Nobody gets lucky playing for small victories. Sell the cases you want to do. They are there, you just don’t see them because you choose not to. It’s not an illusion, it’s gold my friends, reach in there and grab it, pick it up and make the magic happen.

Your next chance at getting lucky is every patient that walks in.
Little Leprechaun – you need someone who is your own conscience, someone who is holding you to your vision and making you accountable to your goals.

It’s not about how much money you make, it’s about how you make the money and what you had to sacrifice to get it.

Lifestyle, peace of mind, uncompromising success built by your own design.

Luck isn’t that lucky at all, it’s about decision, action, commitment and follow-through; but you can’t do it on your own. You need a Lucky Leprechaun to guide the way.

I’m right here – of course – you saw that coming. What are you waiting for, me without you, well I’m not so lonely – there are other smart dentists. You, however, without me, well you are overworked, your clinical skills and desires go far under utilized, and you are most definitely not paid what you are worth.

Have me in your life and you’ll be a whole lot luckier, that I promise you!
