Better Than A New Year – The Start To The Next Decade Of Your Life!

Whether you have been in practice for 10 years or you’re a multi-decade Doctor, it is an extraordinarily exciting time to officially begin the next Decade of your life.

The next 10 years might bring retirement and sale or growth and expansion or both.  What we do know is that the next 10 years will bring great opportunities, unlimited possibilities, and, of course, equally trying challenges (because you can’t have one without the other).

There is nothing that excites me more than Doctors who let themselves challenge their own preconceived ideas or beliefs about what is possible.  Who look to buck trends and blow past the status quo.  Who ultimately arrive at a practice that serves their life not their life having to be at the mercy of their practice.

Whether this is your first Weekly Report or you’ve been with me for a decade or more yourself, over time you become used to the way things are (even if they are far better and quite different than before).

It is important to take inventory of your principles and to assess your expectations often, especially now going into this fresh new year.

We’ve talked all about clarity, vision, and the magic of 20-20.  None the less, it’s all just words unless your actions align so your practice is set-up the way you want it to be… with schedule, with team, with patients, with type of dentistry.

And whether you love it or want it to be different, there is only one person that is in total control of over your reality – that’s You – and that’s something we celebrate.

I hope I remind you often how proud you should be for taking the steps to become ACTIVE OWNERS in your Business and Profession.  I say Active because anyone can literally “own” a business – it’s a piece of paper, a bank account, a tax ID number.

Very few, especially Doctors (I would know), actually become ACTIVE Owners.  It requires someone to drive the business forward instead of just sitting there idle and remain as it always been.

Today, I remind you at the beginning of this new year that you can make it anything you want.  You get to define success and you get to decide what ‘ownership’ is going to be like for you.  These are not based on the past 12 months or the past 10 years, but instead based specifically and solely on the future, the next 12 months, the next 10 years and everything in between.

My goal every year is to have as few ‘resolutions’ as humanly possible.  Who wants or needs one more thing to keep track of?

The reality of your life should be it is as you wish and want already.  However, over time, there can always be cause for you to want things to be different as circumstances change.

So, this year, add as few things to your list as possible, focus more on what you can eliminate, and make sure most of all that you are true to yourself.  Let this be the year you create your ideal practice.

Too often we settle for what already exists.  There is a saying that goes “a goal without a plan is just a dream.”  Well, I say “dream away, my friend.”  Because it all begins there.  Once you have your vision for the future, together we’ll craft your plan.

If there is one thing we can all be absolutely certain of, it is that there will never be another Year 2020.  Who knows how many more years or decades we’ll have to make the most out of life.  Let’s not waste another minute.

This is no time to be somber, but instead excited.  The more motivated and enthusiastic you are about the life ahead, the greater the possibility that your dreams become realities.

I’m honored to be here with you beginning this great new year in your life and practice.  As I always reinforce to every Doctor I have the privilege of serving, guiding, leading, advising, directing, and helping to achieve their state of ideal and potential – all of your efforts and sacrifices are made more worthy by having more reasons outside of dentistry than inside of it.

As you begin your 2020 and the start to this decade, my wish for you is to keep it all in perspective and make this the best year of your life.  You deserve that and it’s the only way to really do justice by this precious gift we’ve all been given of the start to another New Year!

Go get ‘em my friend and know that I’m right here supporting you from behind, guiding you by your side, and most of all out in front leading the way to everything that is possible in and out of your practice for all those you serve and for the one who makes it all possible – You!

Here’s to making it a Happy New Year and marking the beginning of a great decade!
