Dentistry In America, Keeping Your Independence Alive

Tomorrow we celebrate our Country’s Independence and its birth came an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that has literally made our country what it is today.

Business ownership is the epitome of freedom and precisely what allows you to be insulated from outside variables, at least on a typical basis.  I have full confidence everything will return to normal and offer greater stability than ever before.

I understand, in the current moment, the only certainty is that everything is quite uncertain.  Still, it’s a small price to pay for the rewards of democracy.  Even though it doesn’t always feel like freedom, underneath the chaos runs a deep current of individual liberty.

Regardless of how much uncertainty is out there, you can always look inwards to find the strength to push forward and conviction to carryon.

This is, in essence, the very purpose of my most recent book: protecting the most valuable assets in your practice and using this time right now, this most unforgettable and pivotal year of 2020, to strengthen the foundation of your practice.

The 4 cornerstones are the keys to achieving a practice that is built to last through anything, to maximize your peak earning years, and to never falter despite what comes your way.

You’ll find true practice profit secrets of dentistry and business ownership inside my new book.  If you haven’t got your copy consider it my gift to further your own independence…

My entire inspiration for being a business owner and an entrepreneur was as celebration of my own freedom.  The idea that I ultimately only had to be reliant on one person.  I wanted my rewards to be equal to my efforts and not just to make a living but to create a life founded on principles that actually reflect what I believe in.

I’m honored that you are here with me on that same mission.  It is my privilege to write to you each week and provide inspiration, thought provoking ideas, and challenges the status quo.

My hope is to invigorate your spirit to be the best you can be and to build a better business so you can expand your own influence and impact both through your skills and through your prosperity.

To me that is America.  To keep it alive we must keep ambition alive.  It is the very soul of independence and what fuels the future.

You have lived two American Dreams… becoming a Doctor to serve others and owning a Business to do it on your own terms.  You bring together the greatest of healthcare and capitalism to represent what true independence is all about.

Tomorrow, on this most significant of holidays, I ask you to take some time to reflect on your life; what you have sacrificed in order to achieve, what you have invested in order to earn, and what you have foregone in order to experience.

Look at where you are,

How many people you have helped,

The influence that you have, and

The prosperity you have created.

That is the American Dream.  Available to anyone willing to take the opportunity to do the work necessary to make something out of it.

You should reflect on your journey to this point with great pride.  You’ve accepted the challenge, fought through adversity, and live it every day.

I’m curious, have you ever asked yourself – really asked yourself and then actually answered the questions:

What does private practice ownership mean to you?

What does it mean to you to be an independent doctor?

Do you fully appreciate what you have?

My commitment to Dentistry, to you, is to make sure that you don’t lose the harmony between clinician and business owner, the synergy between doctor and entrepreneur.  This is dependent on your fully realizing that it is the business that provides the independence to be the doctor you want and to practice on your terms.

It is about finding that sweet spot for you right in the middle and being enabled to live a life, operate a business, provide the dentistry to the fullest extent of your own vision.

You’ve gotten a great start, but the pursuit is never over.  And I can’t wait to see what you do next.

This July 4th reflect on where you are and all that’s been required by you and others to bring this – your life – to reality.  Then dig down deep and gather up all of your vigor fueled by ambition.  You are not living in the American Dream of your past but creating your next level of independence for your future.

Happy Independence Day.  It’s such an honor to be part of what you are doing, to be living our American Dreams together, and to be on this journey with you.

Here is my gift to you to further your independence, reinforce your future, and take your freedom to the next level by having a practice that is Built To Last – just like our great nation.
