All too often I meet Teams and Doctors (yes, perhaps especially Doctors) who have lost their mojo, their stride, their spirit and enthusiasm for dentistry; and I don’t care who you are…we all do get complacent, we all do take things for granted, we all do need to be reminded just how special we are, the good you do, the gifts you give.
I stand before you proclaiming that the greatest physiological and possible psychological impact that can be made on a person, a human being, comes in the form of their smile.
Hands down, 100%, you can’t top the magic and transformation that takes place when someone feels more confident.
You can give people all kinds of things to smile about – I say – give them something to smile with. The appearance and beauty has become far too overlooked these days in dentistry because so many people have moved on to the ‘next’ bright shiny object or get in such a hurry that they miss the point of making people happy and truly building relationships for life with your patients; which doesn’t come from running an urgent care clinic, an acute dental emergency center – it comes from life changing dentistry.
Dentistry that matters, we often call it.
So, I write to you today, the week of the Christmas Holiday and remind you of something you can never be told too many times…
You do amazing things for people every single day.
You give the gifts of so many meaningful things… Health, Function, Beauty, Confidence, the ability to eat, and sleep, and live life again.
You are incredible and your enthusiasm and belief about what you do matters to everyone you care for and if you want to change more lives and give more gifts make sure you never lose sight of this.
We can and often do get caught up in the busyness of it all, caught up in the volume of people you see, rushing through to the next and the next. I challenge you to pause, take a breath, look your patients in the eyes and articulate with the spirit of giving all that you can do to help them live a better, healthier, more pleasing and beautiful life through the benefits of all dentistry has to offer.
Review your book full of smile makeover pictures, read your testimonials, celebrate your successes, no matter how little or big, seemingly trivial or incredibly significant, you, your team, your doctor, your practice doesn’t need an occasion or a holiday to do something nice, to make a difference, to give gifts, because you do it every single day with every patient.
