The Greatest Gift You Can Give

What an honor it is for me to be able to write you this message today.  Wishing you all the best of the Holiday Season and a special Merry Christmas.

Of course, there is no one to share this message with today at your office.  So instead, I would just remind you of something that I know you do not hear often enough.

I finish every one of our Champions Events with this message –

Never forget how important you are in the lives of your patients.  Please know that you provide more than just oral health, more than just dentistry, yes even more that teeth and smiles – you give the gift of yourself to others every single day.

When patients come to your office and they interact with all of you – you may very well be the only place they have been to today, this week, the entire month, who knows maybe even the only place since they have been back to your office the last time – where someone looked them in the eyes, listened to them, actually cared and gave them permission to want more for themselves…

You do this.

You make them feel special.  You let them think about themselves.  You show them what it means to be important and valued and healthy and confident.

Here’s what I want to remind you of today – on this Christmas – I want you to give yourself the gift of taking as good of care over yourself as you do your patients.

Ask yourself, if you were your patient, what advice would you give about being healthier, happier in and outside of the practice.

I’m not talking about your smile, though that matters too (you should look, live, be the person you are wanting your patients to be).  I’m talking about giving yourself permission to do more things that give you reason to smile.  Take care of you.

Of course, this Christmas, you are busy taking care of everyone else around you.  That’s just fine and you should shower your loved ones with the greatest gift you can give – not presents, money, experiences, food or other memorable things – no, the greatest gift you can give is…

Yourself.  Your time, your attention, your praise, your love, your genuine care.

After all the hustle and bustle is over and it’s back to work again, please take time and commit to giving yourself the greatest gift you have to give; don’t just save it for others – share it with you – because you deserve the same for yourself that you give to others every single day at work and at home.

Enjoy the day and know that you are such a wonderful and special gift to us.  I appreciate the opportunity to be part of your life.  I speak for my entire team when I say, “We are most grateful for the relationship we share.”

Merry Christmas.
