The Most Important Criteria to Keep Winning

Last week, we hosted our Conference of Champions and in the very beginning I gave everyone ten specific things to do that would ensure that they keep winning… continue to improve and up their game.

These ten things are powerful business growth principles that most never even think about let alone do.

Out of all ten though, there was one that is the real secret to success and requires the most discipline of all.  If you want to grow your practice or even sustain the growth that you have – you have to follow this principle…

Do More Of What Works

Yes, it really is that simple.  You know I love my sports analogies so here’s another one… if you are an athlete or coach that wants to keep winning, the last thing you would ever think of doing is changing the way you play from what worked last time.

Instead, you would stick to what works.  You would refine and improve but you wouldn’t modify your strategy, technique, approach or anything else.

In sports, they talk about “winning formulas” for a reason.  Most teams know how to win, it’s the execution that’s difficult.  The entire off season is spent, not on coming up with brand new approaches, but getting better at the strategy that wins already.

Doing more of what works is the hardest thing to do because it can be boring and mundane.  Worse yet, there are forces all around you trying to distract you or persuade you that there is a better way.

I have seen more successful people run off course and go backwards from some level of success they once have achieved because of this very thing.

In your practice, you must stick to the principles that get you results and then you have to rely on the ultimate characteristic of the best of the best and that is…

Consistency.  Consistency is what makes good people great.

Consistently do amazing phone calls.

Consistently take pictures.

Consistently greet patients.

Consistently nail your handoffs.

Consistently focus on health not money or insurance.

Consistently bundle treatment.

Consistently schedule for goals.

Consistently hold huddles and team meetings.

Consistently review your numbers.

I could write a very long list about this – however these are big picture items that you must do consistently.  If you want to really master them, then you have to do dozens of other small tiny details and nuances consistently.

Chart notes.

Treatment follow-up.

Referrals.

Using the patients name.

Getting paid up front.

There is no more powerful success trait than that of consistency.  I often use the saying “champions don’t need to be told they just need to be reminded” because that is actually the case.  You, me, your team, we all need reminded from time to time and refocused on the most pivotal actions that led to results before.

I’m certain you can instantly think of a list of things you use to do or you think are being done or you know sometimes happen that are all things if they were executed more consistently (without shortcuts), would lead to you having more consistent results.

Think about this and next week I have something very special for you that I’m going to gift just for your commitment and attention to really embracing this.  People love to hear that there is something missing, some magic pill, some sure-fire one single strategy that is going to make all of the difference but the real truth, the answer that should be good news to you is: doing more of what works consistently will be the fastest way to greater and more profitable results.  It doesn’t even require anything other than your dedication.
