The Significance of Being an Entrepreneurial Dentist

I just love the entrepreneurial dentist.  I describe these doctors as ones with a real identity as a clinician plus the pride of ownership over their vision.  It means not just being your own boss but being in charge of your own destiny.  The entrepreneurial dentist practices dentistry by design.

I have fought hard to take on and destroy the status quo and the “industry norms” inside of dentistry because I saw the entrepreneurial dentist getting shut out, manipulated and controlled by others.  Over time these doctors have lost sight of what it means to be an entrepreneur business owner, not just someone with a job.

There is nothing more rewarding for me than to help bring a doctor back to (or discovering for the first time), what it means to be an entrepreneurial dentist.

As with most industries, the average expectations and the “that’s just how things are done around here” become the barriers that hold so many back from reaching their potential.

You accept insurance because you think everyone else does.  You lower prices because you are competing with the new corporate practice down the street.  You’ve been afraid of and bashful about ‘selling’ because you’ve been told you shouldn’t.

And the worst part of all is that you’ve been told to just take what you can get.  All you can do is hang your shingle, put up your name and let the patients come in with their problems.

This is what we call doing dentistry by accident.  Which inherently means you have no possible way to predict, plan, create, control or improve the outcomes you want.  That is no way to run a business.

Through my long-term success with a vast variety of different types of businesses, professional practices, healthcare professionals and entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes, I have been able to scientifically reverse engineer the growth of business to make smart, methodical and specific decisions that allow strategies and systems to bring certainty to outcomes.

When you take this and then combine it with my mastery of and experience throughout dentistry, you get a very powerful approach to dentistry.  One that is guided by your preferences and parameters and makes the actual business of dentistry profitable, fun and invigorating.

Entrepreneurial Dentists don’t get told what to do, instead they decide what they want.  Then based on that vision, we develop your practice around you to serve as your vehicle for your life and prosperity.

I love dentistry because there are no restrictions as to how you can shape, design and develop your practice.  There is no one telling you who you are or should be as a Doctor.  You may let outside forces or your lack of clarity hold you back but these are all self-imposed.

We are going to take these self-imposed limitations that every doctor suffers from at some point, and restore your practice to the state of entrepreneurial integrity that you deserve.

You are a creator, you are in control, you are everything you decide you want to become.  Your practice is and will always be only as great as the mindset and ambition of the entrepreneur who is leading it.

And that is something very special for those who embrace their journey and their right to becoming the best entrepreneurial dentist they can be.

As we move forward with this special series, it’s important that I remind you now, that your practice is delivering to you exactly what it is built to deliver.  Your practice will never be better than the business foundation it is built upon.

That’s why we must, if you want all that is truly possible, go to work on the business side of dentistry.  With that comes your uniqueness and your strength as an entrepreneurial dentist that makes all of this more meaningful than just being another dentist on the block.  You can’t afford to be a statistic in the common denominator of “average” in this industry.

To politely and respectfully borrow from the brave men and women who do…

If you want to be all you can be, then you must embrace your right and privilege to grow into an entrepreneurial dentist.
