This Memorial Day…

This Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who helped make what we all do every day possible.  Those who gave their lives so that we could have ours.

I believe the expression of gratitude is also represented by cherishing, making the most of, taking action on, and owning the responsibility of the life that we all have.  You do this by taking nothing for granted, realizing your true potential, and leaving a lasting impact for those around you.

Of course, every day you wake up is a gift but that gift is not worth much if you don’t unwrap it, take it out of the box, put it to good use, and make it worthy of the prices paid.  That means never settling for just good enough and never wondering what might have been.

This Memorial Day, I challenge you to find new gratitude for simple things, gain fresh perspective for the luxuries of our lives, and make the most of every opportunity that presents itself – because each and every one of them is the result of what this day represents.

It’s easy to overlook while the wars are fought across distant borders or only play out in the history books from what seems like ages ago.  Yet, we owe the brave men and women more than that.

Imagine the sacrifice, the courage, the selflessness to risk your life for your country, for your freedoms, for your family, and for your neighbors.  Let us honor how they died by how we live.  Let us honor how they sacrificed by how we remember.

This Memorial Day, we pledge to never forget.
