Time To Take A Look Around

I’ve written here many times this very powerful sentence that I heard years ago from Zig Ziglar.  It is a saying that I will never forget…

Feed your mind with the good, the clean, the pure, the powerful, and the positive.”

This time, the quote is more fitting than ever.  Our minds and emotions, while seemingly complex, are actually not that easy to influence.  Call it a blessing and a curse, I suppose.

That old and perhaps silly saying, “you are what you eat,” has a whole lot of truth to it.  And it’s not just for your body.  It’s your mind and spirit too.  It’s about your environment, the people, the energy, and everything else.

As I said somewhere last week, it still remains a blur.  I can imagine you feel as similarly.  My brother said it is hard to even know what day it is any more.  We are living the groundhog day movie inside of our own homes.  Tuesday feels like Thursday and Saturday feels Wednesday (but somehow Monday still feels like Monday – some things never change).

While we are dealing with this virus and minimizing the spread, there is a lesson or two to be learned.  I do believe, as unfortunate as it is, we will find there to be many many lessons that come out of this entire situation that actually make society better, safer, and more resilient in the future; it’s just tragic the price some will have to pay.

Last week, the theme was “what you focus on expands” and that is what I’m saying here again.

It may not kill a virus, just thinking positive, and there always needs to be a balance of pragmatism in every action and in every feeling as well.  However, we never have to be at the mercy of negativity.

You know, you are spending more time at the place you call “home” than perhaps ever before – to me it would be a great opportunity to consider what our environment is like and what we might need to do to improve the ‘feeling’ inside of it.

If you think about it, your body and your home are really very similar (or at least should be), aside from the fact that you can’t leave your body.  Consider what you bring in to each.  Ponder the orderly state they portray.

To use the words that have stuck in my head for so long, what could we do to make ourselves and our home a better place to exist?  How can they enhance your life, feelings, energy, thinking in the most amazing ways?

I’d like to think I’m the least judgmental person (although, I sure wasn’t always).  While that doesn’t mean I don’t have a preference or an opinion about, well, everything.  I don’t care what movies you watch or food you eat or how clean your house is.

What I’m saying is: are you a product of your environment or is your environment a product of you?  Are your thoughts controlling your feelings or are your feelings controlling your thoughts?

Two questions that I think we can agree on are a little bit of both.  Therefore, you’d better take care of both sides of the equation if you want to be in charge of your own health and well-being.  Do not give up or give in to the outside forces that are all around us all the time; not just in a Coronavirus state of fear, panic, worry etc.

I – not jokingly – said, for goodness sake do not worry about uncontrollable things and exhaustively stress yourself out.  That is the number one way to hinder your body’s immune system.  You become far more susceptible, though it is age and medical condition contingent, when your body is busy fighting off something else and has become worn down.

The bigger point to my message today is to be mindful of the things you are letting influence your thoughts, actions, behaviors, decisions, feelings.  Be deliberate about what you let into your being, into your home, and into your life.

We’ve got this opportunity (even though it has come about because of something terrible – sadly much of life’s greatest reflection points occur out of tragedy and misfortune), to really take a look at and make enhancements to the environment we’ve created and the way in which we live.

Never forget, the life you live is by your own design.  You get to create it any way you want and you’ve never had a better chance than right now to do it!
