Trick or Treat With Your Team

This could be one of the most dramatic shifts in your thinking, depending on where you are at in your mindset right now. Here it is…

You have many sets of “customers”.

Yes, the obvious are your Patients, they are your customers.

But you also have other customers, mainly, your Team.

I love calling them your Team because they are your players. They are there to be developed into something, to improve, to be guided to excellence.

When you come in to your Practice everyday you are working as the Dentist, the Manager or as whatever position you have (depending on who is reading this).

…and you are simply one of the team. I always say that the dentist often tries to take too much control during a day instead of playing their role. They are like the quarterback, very important, but not the only one on the team.

If the Dentists overshadows the team, you will always plateau on your abilities and on your daily potential because the responsibility has to be spread out. You can’t win with an army of one, you must have a team of people all driving forward on their respective positions.

So, the point, in addition to whatever you do on a daily basis, moment by moment with your patients… you must never forget that your Team is also your customer.

They must be included, acknowledged, given direction, challenges, goals, and yes of course goodies…nothing will help your team to perform at a higher level, desire to win more, strive to help others and be at their best than…gratitude and appreciation.

I believe in Tricks AND Treats for everyone. Tricks…in the form of challenges, next breakthroughs, benchmarks to exceed, personal goals to achieve, and other areas of individual focus for each Team Member to take ownership and to work on.

Treats can be candy, money, gifts, appreciation, or any other thing. You should know what motivates each person and you should have a specific development plan for each Team Member.

Today, right now as you read this, we are hosting one of our Practice Champion Events that we have every 2 months for new Practices where we will specifically talk through every single Team member and make sure they have a clearly defined path and plan of improvement for personal development.

We will ensure that we are doing the best we can for their success exactly as we would be doing for each and every Patient’s success.

Here’s your homework this week…

Let’s just make sure your Team, every single member, is not neglected, overlooked, feeling alone…let’s make sure we are making it fun to be a part of your team and that every person feels a sense of challenge and appreciation and knows specifically how to win.

Halloween is a great example of a fun holiday you can celebrate with both of your customers…patients and your team. Sometimes reality isn’t what you want it to be – but – if you want to keep your people, build a career, cultivate loyalty, and make good on the investment you are making in your people – then be deliberate about it.

Speaking of Treats and Tricks…here’s one for you, that you gotta get in your hands and consume every word of it … it will be better than dressing up like a super hero for Halloween, because you’ll be your own real life super hero when you have these 12 Dental Super Powers.
