What Will Define Your Practice Success in 2022?

What better way to finish this year than talking about how your practice can deliver you incredible autonomy for your life.

I have often quoted here that the vast majority of doctors tell me one of their greatest motivations to become a dentist (aside from helping people), is to have control over their schedules and a more conducive work life balance for their families.

They then go on to share one of three realities…

First, they outline all the ways they feel this has eluded them.  That their practice and life are not balanced because they are having to work too many hours or spend too much time managing or they can never leave on vacation.

Often these are habits that have crept in overtime and just become a routine that’s never questioned.  It doesn’t have to be this way.  I promise you and, as a matter of fact, every single year you should ask yourself how can you enhance your own autonomy and how can you make level up your freedom from your practice.

The second reality is how they had balance and autonomy but they can’t seem to make it sustainable.  It ebbs and flows when they are shorthanded, when they have turnover, or an influx of patients.

The third and finally alternative is the biggest frustration from most practice owners.  It’s not that they can’t set their own schedule or that they don’t believe they could work less, it’s that they don’t feel they can do all of those things and not take a financial hit and struggle as a result of it.

They believe, mostly because it’s the experience they have lived out, that it can only be one or the other.  That you have to sacrifice autonomy for money or money for autonomy.  There is no path where you can have both.

Which is exactly why I have put together a New Year Series of Training and Resources that focus exclusively on how to achieve the most profitable year of your career while being able to work less and increase in your own personal autonomy.

Create Your Blueprint To Greater Practice Profits & Lifestyle Balance…

Actually, it’s just the opposite.  When your practice has been designed properly, you can realize greater profits with fewer hours by focusing on the right patients, procedures, and scheduling protocols.

That is why my Reverse Engineering Formula for figuring out what your Practice Growth Dynamics should be is so incredibly important.  Once you get to a certain level of success in dentistry these are the only things you need and really the only things you can use to achieve greater growth and find your next levels of breakthrough success.

The basic concept is very easy… the more people who want in, the less time there is to give them, the more you can dictate what’s put in your schedule, the more control you have over collections… without increasing overhead to produce greater profit.

So, the reality of every private practice owner is that you can absolutely determine your own income all the way down to your actual hourly wage all based around how you engineer your practice.

And this is the exact activity you should have already done or start doing right now before 2022 gets too far ahead of you.

The doctors that make the most money don’t do it on accident.  The practices that have the greatest profit aren’t making it happen without a plan.

On the final day of 2021, I want to give you the top three things you can commit to make your best year ever by your own definition.

First, increase autonomy by taking more control over everything.

Predetermine what you want your income to be.  Know your overhead and then stack on top your income and work backwards from that number to your hourly run rate you must achieve.  Then strategize to create the dentistry that allows you to produce at that level.

Second, stop allowing anyone or anything else to tell you what you can or can’t do.  You get to decide what you want and how you want things to go.  How you want your practice to run and how you want your life to look.  Most doctors don’t fight hard enough for their preferences until it’s too late.

Third, and this is vitally important, choose to live and practice guilt free.  Be proud of the business that you have built and invested in that affords you the ability and opportunity to do it on your own terms.

The bottom line is you can make money a lot of different ways – in dentistry – and you can either let it be random or you can make it strategic.  You get to decide what will define your practice in the new year.
