{"id":1009,"date":"2017-12-04T15:53:46","date_gmt":"2017-12-04T15:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/?p=1009"},"modified":"2017-12-04T15:53:46","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T15:53:46","slug":"to-be-great-you-must-embrace-this-dirty-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/to-be-great-you-must-embrace-this-dirty-word\/","title":{"rendered":"To Be Great You Must Embrace This Dirty Word&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Selling.<\/p>\n<p>You have got to sell everyday all day with every person who walks in.\u00a0 Though it\u2019s not what you think and not in the way you think about it.\u00a0 Actually, it\u2019s much different\u2026<\/p>\n<p><br clear=\"none\" \/>You sell with your words<\/p>\n<p>Also your actions<\/p>\n<p>You sell with your experience<\/p>\n<p>Also your teamwork<\/p>\n<p>You sell with your environment<\/p>\n<p>Also your philosophy<\/p>\n<p>You must realize that all things are \u2018selling\u2019 and either you are doing it effectively or you are ruining everything else being done \u2013 undoing the good.\u00a0 You get to choose to do this deliberately or do this accidentally.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, you never stop selling\u2026 yourself, your value, the importance of what you do, the benefits of what you do and your relationship with your patients.<\/p>\n<p>You heard me right.\u00a0 I said it\u2026 Never. Stop. Selling.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t afford to get lazy about reminding your patients just how special you are.\u00a0 Of course, I don\u2019t mean the term \u2018sell\u2019 in the way so many apathetic-minded people think about it.\u00a0 I mean it in the way that\u2019s best for your patients.\u00a0 I have said it hundreds of times; to sell is to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Influence<\/p>\n<p>Educate<\/p>\n<p>Compel<\/p>\n<p>Care<\/p>\n<p>Parents \u2018sell\u2019 their kids on going to school, doing homework and eating certain foods.<\/p>\n<p>Spouses \u2018sell\u2019 their partner on doing chores, running errands and even going on vacation.\u00a0 Those probably wouldn\u2019t happen, certainly not as often, without a little selling being done.<\/p>\n<p>To sell is to live, to be human, to be real, to take responsibility for creating positive outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone on the team who doesn\u2019t want to be responsible for their outcomes should be working for free \u2013 they show up just to go through the motions, pretending to contribute without actually owning what happens with their patients.<\/p>\n<p>If you want paid, well you better be selling your value of why you matter and your involvement in the practice.\u00a0 It\u2019s plain and simple.\u00a0 Truth is, we can get anyone to show up and go through the motions.\u00a0 What we can\u2019t get, what is really valuable, is the impact that can be made that helps us achieve goals and help more patients; which comes directly from you.\u00a0 Your personality, your talents and your ability to engage patients all leads to getting them to believe in what you are doing, why they are there, how it matters and how it benefits them.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the value.\u00a0 That\u2019s the test of real influence\u2026 do patients follow-through, comply, invest and return.<\/p>\n<p>Anything short of those four things is failure.<\/p>\n<p>And if you want bonus points, you gotta be so good that your patients can\u2019t wait to tell someone else about you as they gather up all their friends and family and turn them into your patients too.<\/p>\n<p>None of this happens on accident.<\/p>\n<p>It happens because you made it happen by doing something.\u00a0 By selling your value to them; by selling the importance of what you do for them; and by selling why it matters enough that they should listen, pay and stay with you.<\/p>\n<p>The other reason this matters so much is because you aren\u2019t the only office they could go to.\u00a0 Believe it or not, there are a whole lot of forces out there working hard to deter your patients from coming in.\u00a0 You have to have good offense and defense if you want to win this battle, day in and day out, with each and every patient.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s where we will pick up next week.\u00a0 In the meantime, let\u2019s define all the ways we do a great job \u2018selling\u2019 patients on us and where we could do a whole lot better.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone says \u2018I don\u2019t like to sell\u2019 or \u2018I don\u2019t like to call it that\u2019 \u2013 smack them.\u00a0 Nothing in this message is about you \u2018selling\u2019 the fee of dentistry; it\u2019s about something greater, much more important and significant.<\/p>\n<p>The hardest part, as you see it, becomes the easiest part of everything you do, if you commit to mastering this.\u00a0 That is, if you will be a true professional and embrace your responsibility with this concept.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/f2fd8f06571fe09827ace5fcb31ec1d2.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80\" src=\"https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/f2fd8f06571fe09827ace5fcb31ec1d2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/f2fd8f06571fe09827ace5fcb31ec1d2.png 576w, https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/f2fd8f06571fe09827ace5fcb31ec1d2-300x109.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Selling.
