The key word in that title is PREPARE.\u00a0 If there is one thing that most doctors do not do enough of it\u2019s prepare \u2013 to be successful in their practices.<\/p>\n

They prepare clinically, for a case, or treatment plan, usually doing it at the last minute of course before a presentation.\u00a0 They might study something if they need to freshen up on it.\u00a0 They go to CE after CE and yet how many hours or even minutes in a year are spent on actually preparing to win at the game they have chosen.<\/p>\n

The big problem is most doctors fall into the cycle of thinking \u201cdoing dentistry\u201d is winning.\u00a0 Similar to a wide receiver running perfect routes all game but catching no passes, and still wondering why they lost.<\/p>\n

Doing dentistry is part of winning the game but it is only part.\u00a0 Winning is a team that is dialed in, all playing in the same direction with intensity and executing like a well-oiled machine.<\/p>\n

Let me tell you a secret. \u00a0Come closer, I don\u2019t want to say this too loud, it might scare off some of your wimpier peers\u2026<\/p>\n

If your day isn\u2019t filled with a little \u2018good\u2019 stress\u2026<\/p>\n

If you are not under the gun to hit your goals\u2026<\/p>\n

If you never see some serious intensity in your office that feels like a winning team in the locker room at halftime\u2026<\/p>\n

If your practice isn\u2019t ALIVE\u2026<\/p>\n

You aren\u2019t playing the game of dentistry to win.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not going to be a walk in the park or a day at the beach.\u00a0 I mean this is called \u2018work\u2019 and if you do it well enough, you can have all the other types of days you want \u2013 but only if you show up to the office\u2026to work\u2026to win.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s a Championship Practice Winning Play Book Look Like?<\/p>\n

What\u2019s it take to have a Super Bowl YEAR\u2026<\/p>\n

Structured meetings.<\/p>\n

Prepared days.<\/p>\n

Focused huddles.<\/p>\n

Seamless handoffs.<\/p>\n

Collections in advance.<\/p>\n

Bundled treatment to build the schedule.<\/p>\n

Time leverage.<\/p>\n

Patient referrals by the hour.<\/p>\n

Championship level patient experience.<\/p>\n

An experience that moves, compels and motivates patients to want to accept treatment because they care about their health and know the longer term benefits are better than the short term savings of delay.<\/p>\n

You also need engaged team members who want to grow and challenge themselves.\u00a0 You want a group of winners.\u00a0 That\u2019s the only way you can win.<\/p>\n

You have YOUR Super Bowl year ahead of you.\u00a0 It is yours to do with whatever you want but you must have the principles of success in place in order to discipline yourself to win.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve given you just a few of the key things to put in place or make sure they are effective the way they are done now.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, you should divide and conquer in your practice.\u00a0 Just like having a quarterback coach, a line coach, a defensive backs coach, a receivers coach, a running back coach, etc.\u00a0 As with offense and defense, not every person trains on the same things \u2013 yet everyone knows what each other is responsible for doing.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t already, write out a list of the three areas of improvement or training priorities for each position and person in your practice.\u00a0 Go to work on those items.\u00a0 That will give you bigger impact and greater results than any other random actions.<\/p>\n

And last but certainly not least (and probably most important of all), you gotta have a pep talk, a rally cry, a strategy session.\u00a0 You have to prepare to win and you have to plan to prepare \u2013 everything begins with what you are doing to set yourself up for success and give your team the winning advantage.<\/p>\n

That happens now.\u00a0 Before anything else.<\/p>\n

As I said last week, you know not everything is going to go right and that is why you don\u2019t want to leave anything up to chance.\u00a0 You want to be ready\u2026 ready for whatever it takes.<\/p>\n

Remember that stupid saying, \u201cHope for the best and prepare for the worst\u201d \u2013 hoping doesn\u2019t win championships and you are going to inevitably walk yourself right into the \u201cworst\u201d doing it that way.<\/p>\n

Instead, you must prepare to win, expect the best always and do whatever it takes to achieve your committed goals and objectives.\u00a0 Then you mitigate the possibilities of the worst ever happening or getting in your way.<\/p>\n

You have the tools, now what will you do with them?<\/p>\n

If you just show up here every week and never act on anything, you are wasting your time.\u00a0 On the other hand, if you are ready to make 2018 the best year of your career, ready to throw away all excuses, ready to fully commit to practice on your own terms and ready to have your greatest Championship Year ever then\u2026<\/p>\n
