{"id":1349,"date":"2019-03-18T15:11:57","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T15:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/?p=1349"},"modified":"2019-03-18T15:11:57","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T15:11:57","slug":"practice-luck-factor-3-of-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dentalsuccesstoday.com\/blog\/practice-luck-factor-3-of-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Practice Luck Factor #3 (of 7)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>It&#8217;s great to hear you are embracing the Luck Factor of Expectations. \u00a0Your thoughts are boomerangs and, once coupled with actions to back them up, you are unstoppable towards your goals in and out of your office.<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s talk about one aspect of taking action. \u00a0There is nothing that embodies the word \u201caction\u201d (when it comes to working together to achieve goals), more so than&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>COMMUNICATION<\/p>\n<p>Without communication it is nearly impossible to get anything done as a team or when you\u2019re helping other people. \u00a0Sure, if your goals are personal (say eating healthier), then you don\u2019t have to talk much about it. \u00a0However, the bigger the goal, the larger the ambition \u2013 the more people it takes to achieve it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we are focusing on the verbiage you use when communicating with others. \u00a0Of course, there is as much power in \u2018nonverbal\u2019 communication too, which we\u2019ll have to save for another time.<\/p>\n<p>I could also add communicating with yourself. \u00a0Do you remember our Huddle about POSITIVE SELF TALK? \u00a0Track it down and read it, study it, live it and even teach it to your kids. \u00a0Positive Self Talk is communication and the verbiage you use with yourself; wrapped into last week\u2019s Luck Factor of Expectations and you have a winning formula that will not fail you.<\/p>\n<p>Now, we talk about verbiage with your Patients and with each other quite often because this is where the magic happens. \u00a0The words you speak, and the manner in which you do, will either move people towards or away from you; it will either give you influence or distrust. \u00a0You have the power to motivate and compel other people to do amazing things for themselves by making great decisions\u2026 that takes words.<\/p>\n<p>I will tell you a little inside baseball\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You won\u2019t find many people in life who are successful (aside from maybe technology geniuses sitting at a computer all day coding), who will not attribute a great deal of their success to their ability to communicate, to influence others, to motivate and to garner trust. \u00a0This is being able to lead other people forward for mutual benefit with their words.<\/p>\n<p>I would say words are NOT considered deeply enough in any industry, perhaps especially dentistry. \u00a0You can imagine what I\u2019m talking about.<\/p>\n<p>Every aspect of what you do requires skillful communication\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Phone<\/p>\n<p>Greeting<\/p>\n<p>Check In<\/p>\n<p>Check Out<\/p>\n<p>Hygiene<\/p>\n<p>Introductions to Doctor<\/p>\n<p>Handoffs to Each Other<\/p>\n<p>Discussion of Problems<\/p>\n<p>Diagnosis<\/p>\n<p>Treatment Presentation<\/p>\n<p>Money and Insurance<\/p>\n<p>Asking for referrals<\/p>\n<p>The list is nearly endless. \u00a0Yes, you can have systems and strategies to follow, but you ultimately will always rely on your words.<\/p>\n<p>I would like for you to assess your communication and the verbiage used for your particular position. \u00a0Ask yourself: where is it not positive enough, where is it not compelling enough, where is it not personalized enough?<\/p>\n<p>In what way can your words work against you to derail the outcome you desire?
