True independence goes beyond owning the practice and into how the practice is serving as a catalyst for the life you want outside its walls.<\/p>\n
I have talked a lot about independence both in concept and in reality. \u00a0This week, as we celebrate our country\u2019s independence, it\u2019s the perfect opportunity to take full advantage of the freedoms you have and design the type of life you want.<\/p>\n
It boils down to whether you want more success by your own definition or you are completely happy with just more of the same. \u00a0Since you are reading this, I can surmise that you are still in pursuit of a better, faster, smarter, more profitable way to practice by utilizing leverage.<\/p>\n
In dentistry you can leverage your time and schedule, you can leverage your team and patients, and you can leverage your profits and the business as a whole.<\/p>\n
The greatest form of leverage is the knowledge of other people who have done what you want to do. \u00a0So many doctors let their past experiences get in the way of their future potential and this is a shame because nothing in the past matters; not failed experiences nor successes, you are only as good as your future results.<\/p>\n

something that will ever happen on its own.<\/p>\n To paint a more vivid picture for you\u2026 nearly half my doctors come to me originally because they are either burnout by dentistry and the effort required to make the same; they are stuck in a rut and feel plateaued; or they are ready to leave, prepare for the exit and sell their practice.<\/p>\n In every single case, I can tell you that no matter how great their team is they have a practice that is so reliant upon them that they feel as though the practice is a weight on their shoulders that they are carrying around. \u00a0Instead of a vehicle they are driving and getting somewhere, it is more like a car up on blocks with the gas pedal being pushed that will never ever get them anywhere other than just burn up the engine.<\/p>\n Once we have restored (or sometimes for the very first time set-up) clarity of vision, systems integration, and performance-based accountability through team ownership of responsibilities, it is as if the weight has been lifted. \u00a0The relief felt from this makes dentistry fun again and well, obviously, winning in clinical excellence and financial profitability makes it more fun and rewarding for everyone involved.<\/p>\n This is the ultimate liberation from the burden of production and management.<\/p>\n If this describes you then you owe it to yourself to act right now and claim your independence…<\/p>\n The other half of doctors are doing well and consider themselves at the top of their game but feeling completely stuck in that the only way to grow beyond where they are at is a way that they don\u2019t want \u2013 and therefore feel lost and stagnated as there is nothing more they can do.<\/p>\n This is often seen as expansion of hours (and expansion of overhead), building out more space, and adding volume on top of volume. \u00a0This just sounds silly when you are already stressed out and running full throttle. \u00a0Some, heaven forbid, are considering adding insurance plans to get more patients when the problem is not with having enough patient opportunities, it\u2019s with not being able to cultivate enough dentistry and case acceptance.<\/p>\n These doctors soon realize that more volume, quantity, hours, patients, space, team and often even production is never the right answer.<\/p>\n If this sounds more like where you are at, then you already get that the best get better by constant and never ending improvement, not multiplying more of the same. \u00a0You are looking for my wisdom (knowledge through compounded experience) to ensure you reach your next level of independence\u2026<\/p>\n Regardless of what type of practice you have today and how you would categorize yourself, going against the grain is what being independent is all about, not having to conform to \u2018norms\u2019 or \u2018trends\u2019 or \u2018others ideals\u2019 just for the sake of it.<\/p>\n So, when I ask you what are you declaring independence from, it goes deeper than just \u2018what\u2019 to \u2018how\u2019 you want to practice and most important to the \u2018why\u2019 of your choices and decisions.<\/p>\n Yesterday, we celebrated the freedom we have in our great country and yet so many doctors are not free at all. \u00a0They are completely imprisoned by their practices and the industry as a whole. \u00a0This stems from their lack of belief in what\u2019s possible and usually from their either doubt or skepticism or lack of exposure to anything but what they already know.<\/p>\n The greatest American qualities are asking questions, being curious, challenging the status-quo, prioritizing ingenuity and innovation, never wavering on their resolve, and relentlessness pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. \u00a0Nothing is guaranteed except the opportunity to take action, to be independent, to define your success, and to take control of your life.<\/p>\n My challenge to you is never settle, never stop being true to yourself, practice on your own terms and reach the greatest independence of them all in dentistry and in life by never having any \u201chave-to\u2019s\u201d but everything because you want to.<\/p>\n During my
