What\u2019s the objective you need to accomplish? What are the first words out of your mouth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This moment matters, in fact, it\u2019s <em>the most important time<\/em> in the entire appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because you\u2019re setting the tone. You\u2019re establishing the outcome before the visit even begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where influence begins. This is where value gets anchored. This is where treatment materializes. This is where case acceptances shows up or walks out the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me show you how to turn those first two to three minutes into the most health-impacting, practicing-altering, difference-making part of your entire day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rule #1: Always Praise and Appreciate First<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t just jump into x-rays and bibs and \u201copen wide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start with what matters most: <strong>gratitude<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are so happy to see you today. Thank you for coming in. You\u2019re doing great things for your health, and we\u2019re honored to have the privilege of taking care of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say it your way, say it using <em>your<\/em> words, but say it <strong><em>every time<\/em><\/strong>. This is your moment to reaffirm good behavior, to validate the patient, to remind them <em>why<\/em> they\u2019re here, and reiterate what it says about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t just etiquette, it\u2019s positioning. You&#8217;re placing them in the driver&#8217;s seat of their own health journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, you can still talk hobbies, kids, and vacations, but save that for the hallway. The real moment begins when the patient is in the chair. That\u2019s your transition point from small talk to serious purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Praise first. Always.<\/strong> It opens the door for what\u2019s next&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rule #2: Set the Game Plan And Make It Clear<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You want the patient engaged? Start with what\u2019s about to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pretend as if the patient says, \u201cSo, what are we gonna do here today?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is your closed circle of the visit. A little hygiene, yes, but also an assessment. Maybe some x-rays. Updated photos. Fresh comparisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;re not doing a \u201ccleaning,\u201d you\u2019re initiating a proactive evaluation of their current status and their forward trajectory. You\u2019re the guide with the map and it\u2019s your job to explain the path they are on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t \u201croutine maintenance,\u201d this is a <strong>strategic health alignment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rule #3: Begin With the End in Mind<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s the third piece\u2026 if you want patients to say yes at the end, they have to see the end from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can start by saying, \u201cBefore you leave today, we\u2019re going to revisit a couple things we didn\u2019t get scheduled last time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re pre-framing the visit. You\u2019re anchoring the importance of next steps <em>before<\/em> the doctor walks in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That way, when the doctor arrives, it\u2019s not a surprise. It\u2019s not, \u201cUh-oh, what\u2019s wrong?\u201d Instead, we already told them and they are expecting this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That one phrase \u2013 <em>we already told them \u2013 <\/em>eliminates objections before they arise. It prevents your doctor from becoming \u201cthe bad guy\u201d with the bad news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how you set the tone and set the standard\u2026 \u201cIf there is disease in your mouth, it\u2019s not acceptable to leave it unaddressed. Our standard of care is greater than this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is about clarity, confidence, clinical philosophy, and professional responsibility. Trust me, if your standard of care is non-negotiable, the patient will rise to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rule #4: Pre-Frame for Completion, Not Convenience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never forget that the <em>specific<\/em> language you use matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow as you know, we\u2019re not finished.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not \u201cyou could,\u201d not \u201cyou might,\u201d not \u201cif you want to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, you say: \u201cWe actually have two more things in order to <em>complete <\/em>your pathway to health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one likes feeling incomplete. People feel like unsettled when they leave things undone. (Ever had one item left on your to-do list?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So use the word: <strong>complete<\/strong>. It\u2019s powerful as it implies purpose and signals progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This all happens in the first two to three minutes while you\u2019re setting up. It doesn\u2019t take extra time. But it changes everything. It\u2019s the verbal version of setting up the finish line and putting their name on the trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rule #5: Opportunity + Strategy = Outcome<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your ability to be influential is because you set the tone and you pre-determined the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in order to do that, you have to <em>know the outcome<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s what the morning huddle is really for. It\u2019s not just schedules and breakdowns. It\u2019s to visualize the end of each visit before it starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOpportunity plus strategy equals desired outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what\u2019s the opportunity? Twofold:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>1. Resurrect Old Treatment<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday\u2019s treatment plan is <em>old news<\/em> in a patient\u2019s mind. So how do we make it new again?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New pictures on old treatment equals new treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You refresh their perspective. You reconnect them with what matters now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>2. Discover New Opportunities to Help<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is your purpose and the reason the patient is here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Destroy the misconception that \u201cThere\u2019s nothing to do\u201d is a victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the patient leaves the visit without you helping them get healthier, move forward, or take a step closer to their goals, that\u2019s not good news. That\u2019s a missed opportunity and a missed responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We celebrate when we find ways to help. We don\u2019t celebrate nothing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This Is the Front End of the Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In total, we\u2019re talking at most about 90 seconds to three minutes. It seems insignificant but it holds the weight of the entire appointment. It\u2019s where you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set the tone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Declare the outcome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frame the conversation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare the patient for action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how you visualize, you influence, and you lead. When you do that, you don\u2019t just increase case acceptance&#8230; you create alignment, you build trust, and you deliver life-changing care.
