There\u2019s less than one-twelfth of the year left, but it holds more weight than most people give it credit for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How you choose to finish this year isn\u2019t just about checking boxes or meeting goals. It\u2019s about defining who you are and the standards you live by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In working with hundreds of doctors over the years, I\u2019ve noticed a defining trait among those who consistently rise to the top &#8211; not just financially, but in fulfillment, control, and freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They aren\u2019t simply good starters. <strong>They\u2019re great finishers<\/strong>. They don\u2019t let loose ends define their leadership. They bring things to completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting is easy. Enthusiasm is abundant in January. New ideas, new habits, fresh energy abound. But finishing, that takes something different. Finishing requires conviction. It requires a mindset of ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Wisdom in One Phrase: \u201cClose the Loops\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A few weeks ago, my wife was revisiting the book&nbsp;<em>What to Say When You Talk to Yourself<\/em> &#8211; one of those books that should be read every year, just to realign your thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that book, she came across a phrase that\u2019s stuck with me since:&nbsp;<strong>\u201cClose the loops.\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s simple, but powerful. That phrase captures what so many of us struggle with\u2026 the tendency to leave things unresolved, unfinished, lingering in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people live in loops. They start things they never finish. Projects, conversations, goals, treatment plans, decisions. Loops left open create drag. They create noise. And that noise compounds in your mind, in your practice, and in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So here\u2019s the challenge: What if, instead of coasting into January, you chose to finish? What if you treated December not as downtime, but as&nbsp;<strong>deadlines with purpose<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>No Greener Grass, Just Untended Ground<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no greener grass. There is only what you choose to do with the ground beneath your feet. Right now, December is offering you a clean field. You can use it to tie up what\u2019s been left hanging, to recommit to clarity, to move into January with energy that isn\u2019t borrowed from last year\u2019s procrastination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the simplest and most effective things you can do this month is to sit down and make a list of the loops you want to close. Not as a guilt trip, not as a shame list, but as a declaration of closure. It might be one conversation you\u2019ve been avoiding. One system you\u2019ve been tolerating. One project you\u2019ve started but haven\u2019t seen through. Identify them, choose your priorities, and then carve out time to complete them on purpose, with intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because how you finish this year will bleed directly into how you begin the next. It\u2019s not about squeezing more in; it\u2019s about choosing what&nbsp;<em>must<\/em>&nbsp;be done, and doing it. That\u2019s what it means to be a person of completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Completion Isn\u2019t Just Leadership &#8211; It\u2019s Leverage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This mindset also translates directly to patient care. If your treatment plans are filled with incomplete pathways, unfinished cases, and reactive scheduling\u2026 that\u2019s not just a clinical problem, it\u2019s a cultural one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re surrounded by unfinished work, you\u2019re training your team and your patients that this is normal. That it\u2019s okay to stop short. That halfway is good enough. It isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a finisher in your practice means cultivating a culture that values closure. In morning huddles, in end-of-day wrap-ups, in weekly reviews are you setting the tone for completion? Are you modeling it? Are you inspecting what you expect?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too many doctors show up at the end of the month and are surprised by their numbers. Surprised by cancellations. Surprised by missed goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Champions aren\u2019t surprised. They\u2019re proactive. They know what\u2019s happening because they\u2019re creating it. They\u2019ve visualized the win long before the score is posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Your Greatest Built-In Deadline Is Right Now<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now\u2019s the time to ask yourself, and your team, \u201cWhat are we finishing before the year ends?\u201d This isn\u2019t just about dentistry. It\u2019s about how you lead, how you live, and what kind of energy you bring into the next chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you close your loops, you\u2019ll feel it. Your team will feel it. Your patients will feel it. Clarity creates confidence and confidence creates control. It\u2019s not more work, it\u2019s better work. It\u2019s choosing to do less, so you can have more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So as we approach the end of this year, I\u2019m not going to tell you to push harder, produce more, or hustle into burnout. I\u2019m going to challenge you to finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month is not a throwaway. This is your&nbsp;<strong>greatest built-in deadline<\/strong>. December isn\u2019t for \u201cwinding down,\u201d it\u2019s for&nbsp;<strong>winding up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, this week, I ask you to\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make a list of the loops you need to close.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the top 3 priorities to\u00a0<strong>finish<\/strong> this year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Block the time, make it sacred, and focus on completion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Be the kind of leader who doesn\u2019t just start strong but who finishes strong with purpose.
