There are some blessings we should never get used to. There are some gifts so profound that the only appropriate response is not just appreciation, but responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Memorial Day is one of those moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is easy in the busyness of life to think of this day as a long weekend, the beginning of summer, a time for family, travel, cookouts, rest, and a little extra breathing room. And there is nothing wrong with enjoying those things. In fact, in many ways, the ability to enjoy life with the people we love is part of the very freedom that others sacrificed to protect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, we must never forget why this day exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today is not just about time off. It is about lives given. It is about people who did not come home. It is about families who carried loss so the rest of us could carry on. It is about men and women who, in moments most of us will never fully understand, stepped forward into danger so that future generations could step forward into opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That includes the life we get to live. The work we get to do. The families we get to love. The practices we get to build. The patients we get to serve. The choices we get to make. The goals we get to pursue. The freedoms we get to experience every single day, often without even thinking about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why gratitude, by itself, is not enough. Gratitude must become action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the freedoms we enjoy were not free. The opportunities we have were not automatic. The ability to choose our path, build our lives, speak our minds, pursue our dreams, serve others, grow, lead, create, and contribute came at a cost paid by people we may never know personally, but whose sacrifice touches us personally every single day. And while we can never repay that debt in equal measure, we can respond to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can respond by taking nothing for granted. We can respond by refusing to waste the opportunities in front of us. We can respond by doing our work with pride. We can respond by treating people with dignity. We can respond by creating more good than we consume. We can respond by making the most of the life we have been given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we remember what others gave so we could live freely, choose freely, work freely, and build freely, it should elevate the way we show up. It should remind us that ordinary days are not really ordinary. It should remind us that the opportunity to make a difference is itself a gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this week, let Memorial Day become more than something we acknowledge. Let it become something we apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a team, talk about what it means to take nothing for granted. Talk about what it means to bring more intention into your day. Talk about what it means to honor the freedoms we have by doing meaningful work with excellence and gratitude. Talk about how your attitude changes when you remember that the ability to serve, contribute, build, and grow is not something everyone in history has had the chance to experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, here are a few questions worth bringing into your huddle discussion\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where are we taking opportunities for granted in our practice?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where can we show up with more gratitude, more pride, and more purpose?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we help patients see their health not as a burden or expense, but as a gift worth protecting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where can we better honor the freedom we have by using our time, talents, and opportunities more intentionally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because Memorial Day reminds us that life is precious. The people we love are precious. The work we get to do is precious. The chance to begin again, grow stronger, serve better, and make a difference is precious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So today, we remember. We remember the brave men and women who gave all. We remember the families who carried the cost. We remember that our freedoms came through sacrifice. We remember that what we have is not something to waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then, we go forward with gratitude that becomes action. We make the most of the day. We make the most of the work. We make the most of the opportunity. We make the most of the life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the people we honor today left behind more than memory. They left behind a responsibility.
