Here we are at the start of another month, and I want to begin November by reminding you of something I believe with everything in me: you have an extraordinary opportunity every single day to make a difference in someone&#8217;s life, to grow as a person, and to be part of something bigger and more meaningful than just showing up for work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, none of that happens automatically. It happens because of the choices you make, the standards you embrace, and the way you decide to show up for each other and for your patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can tell you with absolute certainty that the difference between an average practice and an extraordinary one isn&#8217;t complicated. It&#8217;s not the technology. It&#8217;s not the location. It&#8217;s not even the clinical skills of the doctor, although those things certainly matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real difference is the PEOPLE and the choices they make about who they&#8217;re going to be together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can walk into two practices that look almost identical from the outside, but the experiences inside couldn&#8217;t be more different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one, everyone&#8217;s waiting for something to happen. The day dictates their attitude. The schedule determines their energy. Problems become reasons to complain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the other, the team brings the energy with them. They anticipate needs. They communicate proactively. They support each other. They approach every patient as an opportunity to make something better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same profession. Same kinds of patients. Same challenges. Entirely different results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because one team has decided that success is something they CREATE, not something they HOPE happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now here&#8217;s where great teams separate themselves from everyone else. It&#8217;s easy to have a positive attitude when everything&#8217;s going your way. It&#8217;s easy to be a great teammate when the schedule is running perfectly, patients are happy, and nobody needs anything extra from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, that&#8217;s not when teamwork matters most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It matters when the schedule gets behind. When somebody needs help. When a patient is nervous or frustrated. When something doesn&#8217;t go according to plan. When you have to decide whether you&#8217;re going to make the situation better or contribute to making it worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those moments reveal the culture of your practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s something I want every single person to remember: you don&#8217;t have to be the doctor, the office manager, or the person with the most experience to be a leader. Leadership happens every time you take responsibility for making the people around you better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You lead when you notice a teammate struggling and offer help without being asked. You lead when you bring a solution instead of another complaint. You lead when you encourage a patient who is uncertain, when you take an extra moment to make someone feel comfortable, and when you hold yourself to a higher standard even when nobody is watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s leadership and when everybody on the team decides to lead in those ways, something extraordinary begins to happen. You stop operating as a collection of individuals who happen to work in the same building, and you begin functioning as a team with a shared mission and a common commitment to excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now let&#8217;s take this directly to your patients, because that&#8217;s ultimately why we&#8217;re here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If every patient matters, then every single visit must count. Not just the big cases, the new patients, or the people who make the schedule look good. EVERY patient. EVERY visit. EVERY opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means we don&#8217;t allow the schedule to dictate the quality of our care. We don&#8217;t let insurance limitations determine the completeness of our diagnosis or the value of our recommendations. We don&#8217;t assume patients understand what&#8217;s possible for their health simply because we&#8217;ve explained something once before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We take responsibility for helping them understand, believe in, and make informed decisions about the care that can improve their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s your challenge for this week. I want your team to have a conversation about the moments during the day when you tend to become reactive instead of proactive. Maybe it&#8217;s the morning rush, a difficult handoff between departments, a patient who hasn&#8217;t made a treatment decision, or a schedule change that creates unnecessary stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talk about those moments together. Not to blame anyone but to determine what you can do differently BEFORE they happen again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I want each person to make one personal commitment about how they will contribute to making the entire team stronger this week. Not something vague like having a better attitude or trying harder. Something specific that your teammates will actually notice and benefit from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doctor, I want you to go first. Let your team know what you&#8217;re committed to doing better. Show them that improvement isn&#8217;t something you expect only from others. It&#8217;s something you&#8217;re willing to demonstrate yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the truth is, the team you become tomorrow begins with the decisions you make today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;re not just building a schedule, completing procedures, or trying to reach production goals. You&#8217;re building people. You&#8217;re building relationships. You&#8217;re building confidence. You&#8217;re building a practice that can become more valuable and meaningful to everyone connected to it.
