Most Dentists strut into their office at the start of a new year expecting more of the same\u2026 the same patients, the same problems, the same profits, the same procedures.<\/p>\n
They expect this because they do nothing to make it any different.<\/p>\n
Facts are facts. You can change, eliminate, get rid of, get more of whatever you decide to. These 4 simple categories of things that are inside of every practice are controllable with a little diligence and focus on them.<\/p>\n
For every person, the \u2018New Year\u2019 (or life for that matter), either happens to you or you happen to it.<\/p>\n
I always remember the saying \u201cIn the world there are only 3 kinds of people:
\nThose that make things happen
\nThose that talk about things that happen
\nand those that just stand around saying \u2018what happened?\u2019
\nYou get to decide which you are going to be.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s even better\u2026 and read this carefully because I\u2019m about to give one of the single most valuable pieces of advice and tools to use to dramatic grow, even explode your practice\u2026<\/p>\n
You can teach this to the people in your life who are doing this thing called dentistry with you.<\/p>\n
Your Team.
\nAnd
\nYour Patients.<\/p>\n
Imagine, explaining to your team about what it looks like in their role in your office when they make things happen, talk about things or just watch things happen.<\/p>\n
This is the difference between reactive and proactive. This is the difference between getting what comes and getting what you want. This is the difference between accidental, sometimes success and deliberately controlled, all the time success.<\/p>\n
For your team, they should know position by position what to do to \u2018make things happen\u2019 by definition, by action, by patient circumstance, by their daily role and engagement with people in the practice.<\/p>\n
It gets better.<\/p>\n
Imagine, explaining to your patients about what it looks like to watch their mouth and health fall apart; to talk or complain about the way they look, feel, sleep, eat, chew, smile; or if they take control, are proactive, make positive serious decisions and they do something about their health, their mouth, their smile, their dentistry.<\/p>\n
Often times we don\u2019t take the lead to guide patients to a good decision and that means you are just standing around watching, talking, saying what happened right along with your patients and team members.<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, it is your responsibility to have a culture where you lead by example and where you settle for nothing less than a take-action-attitude.<\/p>\n
If the doctor loses focus or becomes complacent to this philosophy, you darn sure won\u2019t have any team members or patients stepping up to do it for you.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the good news\u2026<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a New Year and it doesn\u2019t have to be the same as the last one. Of course, you can keep the good stuff, but if you aren\u2019t trying to one-up yourself and do better than last year you simply have no point in existing.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve decided to kick the new year off in a very big way by doing this \u2018make things happen\u2019 thing for you by giving you a big advantage as you start 2017 off on the right foot.<\/p>\n
You see, over the years I have learned to master practice growth not by increasing work, hours, even patients or fees (which is what many lame-o-same-o groups who call themselves silly names like consultants or management or training companies, all who have no real business experience and therefore get paid to give you answers you A) already know B) don\u2019t want to hear C) let alone do).<\/p>\n
Anyone can make more money working more, doing more, seeing more; but please tell me: what\u2019s the fun in that?<\/p>\n
Did you really say \u201cIn 2017 my New Year\u2019s resolution is to work more hours\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The most common request I get is \u201cHow can I work less and make more?\u201d Seems like a good idea. Any smart dentist would want that versus any and all of these other options.<\/p>\n
There is a different and better way to accomplish working less and making more in 2017.<\/p>\n
And the way to do it is by capturing lost opportunity in patients, treatment and money in your practice. Without this you are having to fight the volume battle, even if you don\u2019t realize it, because you are only getting, keeping, earning, profiting from a fraction of the potential and opportunity inside of your practice.<\/p>\n
This has to change in 2017. At least if you want to keep your sanity and have the best year of your career.<\/p>\n
