Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance

We are running hard this week. Getting straight to the point.

Are you running hard into Monday Mornings?! Or are you just sauntering in laissez faire and hoping the momentum hits you in the ass instead of you leading the charge? Hey, every MONDAY matters, it sets the tone for the week, you push out of the gate strong, it’s always better to have a lead than to have to come from behind, everyone knows that.

Last week I explained “the trickle down effect.”

Where you go to a training course or bring in some idea or you have things in your head that you try to convey to the team and like that game of telephone, every time you pass it down it loses some of its essence let alone gets miscommunicated.

This is a problem.

Think of it as if you were going into a sports event with a gameplan but then you changed up the plays every single time you went out onto the field.

First of all, most have no gameplan.

If I were to say to you right now – what is your game plan for achieving your goals…or maybe the first question should be, what are your goals?

How do you schedule, how many new patients do you see, what is the value of treatment you must achieve on a daily basis: diagnosed, accepted, paid for and scheduled. What is the desired outcome out of every DAY of Hygiene?

And even if you do have exactly these things plus many others (which you don’t) are they designed and adding up to your goals?

What is your person by person, position by position goal? What does each person own, is held accountable for, reporting to you about? Daily. Weekly. Monthly.

Did you know if you survey 1000’s Doctors, more than 95% of them will tell you their “GOAL” is their breakeven point. It’s the amount they have to get just to get by. And if you press them and ask for their daily target of “must do cashflow” 75% of the time it doesn’t even add up to their stated goals.

This is crazy to me. It’s lack of planning and foresight. Really irresponsibility.

Most Dentists are AWESOME, amazing, committed, passionate Dentists…they just happen to work for a really shitty, dysfunctional, unorganized, lacking a solid specific plan BOSS – THEMSELVES.

Sorry to be so harsh…well not really…because the good news is, because you are here, reading this, you are already putting yourself into the top 10% of Practice Owners on the Planet. So that’s good news.

But… Still the bad news is, if you wouldn’t like working for yourself, I wonder what other people think about it. A Team with no structure is not any good. They don’t win many games and they seldom blowout anyone…they squeak by at best.

Question: Is your team, your practice, your patient experience designed to squeak by or win it big?!

That’s it. The question of the day. Answer that. Reflect on this week’s Huddle. I’m not sure if you did your homework from last week yet, but here is the answer.

As promised solving the Trickle Down Effect is about three things.

1 – SHARING Ownership of Responsibilities.

2 – INVOLVING Others in Ideas AND Actions.

3 – BUILDING Consistency with your Teams daily Performance.

And best of all, these allow you to move from being a micro-management (or no-management at all) to a system or accountability, reliability and reporting from others through the Team Champion onto You.

When it starts at the top and works it’s way down you are destine for frustrating results. You want your Team out ahead leading the charge. When I see a Practice where the weight of the Production is carried on the Doctor’s shoulders (having to create everything that happens), I see a dead end path of frustration and destruction leading to burn out.

When it’s a team effort and you have everyone out there making things happen for you…getting assists…life becomes fun and you get to be in your sweet spot and enjoy everything you do and everyone you interact with.

The best set-up is described in my Dental Team Transformation Book which I believe you had an opportunity to get last week. Did you grab a copy?

… If not, you still can: http://DentalTeamTransformation.com

And … if you woke up today without a real plan, or feeling like you are going into the week and being somewhat (or a lot) reactive, or hoping for great things to happen but not necessarily planning for success in the way I’ve explained and laid it out…

Then, I’d strongly encourage you to go here, and get my Prosperity Package to get your head in the right space and change your thinking about true practice transformation and getting your practice to serve you instead of you serve it…works out better for everyone believe me.
