Making Moments Memorable

I don’t need to tell you (because you’re here), but the doctors gathered in our Dental Success Today world are truly special.  They just seem to do more than anybody else.  They take business ownership and leadership to the max.  They rise up to meet the challenge, follow-through on plans, stay positive in the face of adversity, and lead their teams by example.

They are always in action, in motion, and doing something.  Which is what everyone should be doing right now.  By the way, that includes taking time to relax, to keep things in perspective, to meditate, and just ponder about your future.

It is also why I have been advocating like never before to be of service to your patients right now, even if you can’t do full dentistry.  You can be a source of information, education, and positivity.  For our Specialists Doctors that are getting patients from other Doctors, they should be of service to them.

One of my really great friends has a saying he shares all the time and it is vitally true, “Common sense is not common practice.”

Everything I’m talking about right now is common sense.  And yet very few people do it.  It is amazing to me how some doctors out there would go hide in a hole and shelter themselves from the world but then expect to wake up, walk back out, and suddenly have patients lined up ready to come in.

Those who abandon their patients now, don’t deserve the patients in the first place.  They don’t get the point of real relationships and the responsibility of service.

In life and business, one of my mantra’s is “successful people do what unsuccessful people aren’t willing to do” and more bluntly stated, “do what others don’t so you can have what others won’t.”

The contrast is even more stark during a crisis.  Be of service when no one else is, show up when no one else will, move forward when everyone else moves backwards.

Let me take a moment to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to those amazing Doctors and incredibly Team Members who have been going above and beyond, answering phones, talking to patients, providing emergency treatment, doing virtual consultations, sending incredible videos, making personal phone calls, sharing education, and finding ways to give confidence in a crazy time.

I’m very proud of you and you’ve been an inspiration to more people than you can possibly know.  Keep it up.  I know this is not why you are doing it – but you will be rewarded in a big way.  And you’ll deserve every ounce of it.

One of my dearest Doctor friends, an elite practitioner of dentistry and business, sent a very special video to his patients about how so many people are lonely and not able to celebrate those memorable moments in their lives right now, but it doesn’t have to be that way.  In fact, it could be even more remarkable because of these circumstances.  Regardless of any distance between us, our shared experiences can still be special.

He wisely said we are limited only by our imagination as to how we can connect, celebrate, and cherish one another.  He gave some special examples to serve as inspiration.  Of course, you can see on social media how people celebrate their birthdays or births or even weddings.  These events can, in some way, still be shared with others.

My message to you today is: while you might be isolated in your house, you don’t have to be isolated from those you love.  You don’t have to quarantine your imagination.  In fact, it ought to be thriving as if you were once again a child.

So, be a kid again, have some fun, make some memories, loosen up, and just enjoy the moments.  You can make every day moment, not just the life events, extra special right now.
