How To Win At The Team Sport of Dentistry – Every Day

Last night was a powerful training on the Team Sport of Dentistry and if you missed it, WOW, you really shouldn’t have. Good news is they have given me permission to let you in for one more day so you can still access my playbook for winning with your team in our great profession.

After I talk you through today’s Profit Report I’ll give you the secret access.

I know you are serious about your practice otherwise you would not be here; that is for sure by reading this and teaming up with me.

There is only one way to win long-term, in a sustainable fashion that keeps the burden of growth and responsibility off of you and that is through playing Dentistry like a Team Sport. Where everyone knows their position, understands their role, shows up because they want to win and takes care of their team members like family.

You may not be such a touchy, feely, emotional type person or you might by (and either way is okay), you don’t have to change who you are to embrace the team approach.

Personally, I’m very reserved and the opposite of social, yet I help impact people’s lives everyday (yours included) by being a leader of people. I inspire both my team and yours to do better than they ever thought possible, all by expecting more and by performing at a higher level.

Last week, I laid out the proper structure and method for attracting, screening, hiring and recruiting the ideal A+ Team Members, which is not altogether different from what you should be doing to get A+ Patients.

Here’s the thing: once you get bring someone on board, that is just the beginning.

You really have to grasp this 100% and never let it go; especially if your current team members have been with you for a very long time. You must ask yourself “What is my current approach to team member development?”

How do you continue to assess their performance?
How do you continue to train them to improve?
How do you continue to inspire and motivate them?
How do you continue to lead them to grow your practice?
How do you continue to get to know them and help them in their own lives?

I could continue with my list of questions…you are certainly getting the point.

And while you might have answers to some or even all, the real question is “Are your strategies and approach: planned, scheduled, structured and most importantly effective?”

There is only one way to know … ask them.

Every single day, I have Doctors complain about their teams’ performances or they say they need training or they are frustrated with some one or some thing and I always ask the question “What are you doing about it?”

We seldom allocate time to do any of these five things – ever – and especially not consistently.

How many Sports Team do you think there are who do not have all of these questions dialed in as a critical and essential part of their team’s operations and plan to be successful.

What I want to challenge you to do is make sure you have a specific onboarding process for all of your new Team Members. It should include not only what they need to learn from their own positional responsibilities and training on the clinical skill side of their “job” but also you must have some way to indoctrinate them into your way of thinking, with your philosophy of patient care and your practice culture.

Everything from language to certain circumstances or situation on how you want things to be answered or addressed.

If you do this for all of your new Team Members, you will be setting them up for success and you will be earning their trust, their loyalty and their dedication along the way.

When I talk with Doctors who would prefer to never have to deal with this part of their business, I have to remind them who’s business, vision, goal and wealth building practice this is … the doctors.

And always the person who makes the most money from it carries the most responsibility with it.

Of course, you can have help and back-up. You can have a full support team to lead the charge so you don’t have to. Provided that you and I match up with the philosophy of dentistry, the principles of business and the lifestyle parameters I require my dentists to enjoy, then we’d be honored to hone your team, develop your talent and provide you a customized winning playbook for your future and success.

Still though, you can’t outsource the energy and leadership of your daily in-the-trenches coaching of those people who work to win for you and for themselves.

Take this Profit Report seriously because in it holds the ultimate secret formula to ensure you win every game with every patient every day in your business. The best news of all, unlike other athletes and sports teams, you compete against yourself. That means you can always control the outcome, if you choose to.

Okay, as promised, here you go…
