No Pity For The Foolish Dentist Avoid THIS Trap…

We call this Trap the fallacy of extremes.  A really bad idea.  You see the industry (yes our great and wonderful industry, which it is, but it is also very deceiving), sells you greener grasses or worse yet sells you the sky is falling mentality.

Both of these are extremes.  Change what you are doing for greener grass, or change what you are doing because the world is coming to an end.

Everyone, every journal, every new shiny object or trendy idea is driving Dentists away from their core values and turning them into “one in the same” where every Dentist is equal.

That’s a bag of garbage (and really a much more vivid and fitting word than ‘garbage’).

It’s wonderful to grow, change and adapt with strategic purpose and with intentionality.  Of course you do this as you keep learning, training and finding new things to add to your practice (whether it’s new procedures to your mix or new ideas to your business).

But.

You do not ever do this at the expense of your philosophy, your principles, your own personal lifestyle and practice structure.

Instead, you have to choose who you are, how you want to practice and what you want to be known for – you have to decide on your differentiation.

The foolish dentists looks to follow the crowd, to become like everyone else and otherwise destroy the very reasons why a patient would want to come to you, be loyal to you, invest in you – because of you, your brand, your mission, your purpose, your relationship – because all of these things are about more than just dentistry.

If you drink the industry kool-aid then you are drinking insurance, discount, commoditization, marketing deals, coupons and becoming a convenience store; instead of an exclusive practice that patients respect and feel privileged to be cared for by you.

Who would have thought – corporate would try to take over dentistry.

Who would have thought – insurance would ruin patients, not help them.

Who would have thought – you could buy ortho through the mail.

Next Wal-Mart will be selling “do it yourself dental kits” or people will be buying one size fits all dentures.

C’mon, this is crazy.

The question is: what are you going to do about it?  Listen to the noise, get lost in the crowd, follow these people off into the abyss and over the cliff where there is no turning back, no autonomy, no control over your profit, no ability to really be your own boss because you are answering to and at the mercy of everyone else?

Worse than all of that is: these things take the focus off of what matters most, what we are all here to do … help people and care for patients by making healthy, functioning, beautiful smiles.

… it’s not all of these other sideshow that distract from the main point and ultimate purpose.

I have an idea.   Actually, I have specific steps.  I have a proven system.

I have the path and formula to finally and completely differentiating yourself from everyone else – so that you will rise above the competition, the corporations, the insurance, the discounts and everything and everyone else that gets in your way, that muddies the minds of your patients, that takes away from your integrity and your mission.

Today is the day I have promised, I have teased, and now I’m here to rescue you from being another victim to our industry’s supposed good deeds, nice gestures and peer pressure into unhealthy business practices and dental principles.

Stand with me in embracing your uniqueness, in being who you are, in structuring your business and your dental practice to be extraordinary.

It’s a choice.  A Decision.  All Yours.

And you can make that choice today.  This is my gift to you.  It may very well be the most valuable one you have ever received (if you accept the responsibility that comes with it).

Go ahead, see for yourself, you be the judge…

Remember the saying: you can only claim ignorance so long as you were not informed or unknowing, but once armed with the information, the power is yours, the path is set and now you make your own fate.

Don’t be misled or negligence with your own success.  Own it.

Through Differentiation!

And you won’t wake up a fool tomorrow or any other day for the rest of your career.  Instead, you’ll be laughing at all the others who chose the path everyone else is taking because you, as the great poet Frost said, chose the one less traveled.

It’s more scenic, more fun, more fulfilling, more rewarding, more profitable and best all of… no one will try to make you something you are not or force you into to settling for less than you deserve and have earned the right to have, achieve and enjoy.

Your path is right here.  One of differentiation, great dentistry, appreciative patients, worthy fees, a loyal team, and all the other things that go with confidently pursuing your own dreams, goals and practice style.

Differentiate now or be nothing more than just another dentist…
