The 3 Biggest Ways Practices Lose Money!

Today I want to talk to you about something that seems elusive for most people; a cliché not a modus operandi. Something that if completely and totally embraced (through a zero tolerance policy), you will begin to see efforts compound, momentum build and a practice that executes through leverage.

I’m talking about working smarter, not harder; about getting more out of what you have already got; about making the most out of your existing effort, team, time, patients, etc.

As you know, tomorrow I’m hosting an advanced webcast all about the 5 Keys that will, without question, unlock more opportunity, more treatment and more money without adding more time, patients, stress or really any additional effort at all.

Ok, so what does working smarter mean?

It really comes down to three critical things…

1st Not repeating effort

2nd Not making mistakes

3rd Not wasting opportunity

Now each one of these is multi-faceted of course. Because you have many places where you can fall victim with each one.

First, let’s look at not repeating effort. This can be team members overlapping each other’s responsibilities. This can be doctors having to redo work. This can be people answering the same question twice. This can be many other forms of inefficiency.

Remember, time is money, effort is money, everything is money.

Last I checked, every Team Member has some breakdown of an hourly value. All you get are those hours and the effort that drives accomplishment during those hours.

If any one person is repeating effort (or hopefully not multiple people replicating effort), then you are paying many times over for the same work, thus losing on the replication. MORE IMPORTANTLY, you are losing on the loss of effort and time dedicated to the things that now can’t be done.

Of course, not making mistakes is the same thing in many ways because most mistakes result in having to redo or repeat tasks. Also mistakes lead to lost patients, lost treatment, lost opportunities which leads us directly into the third one…

The final one is wasting opportunity. Every single day, the patients who leave without paying, without scheduling, without being diagnosed thoroughly and without treatment being properly presented … is a waste.

And as long as you pretend to yourself that they will be back or you will catch them on their next hygiene appointment or you’re going to call as follow-up, represent excuses for not winning the game today.

Waste is the root cause of diminishing profits. It’s cancerous to a business and will kill you from the inside.

You simply have to have a philosophy and culture that doesn’t allow it and it becomes strictly enforced because it is a multiplier of problems.

You lose money, you lose time, you lose patients, you lose opportunity. All of these things tie together into a vicious circle.

The only way to stop it is to ensure you have these 5 Golden Keys in place that I will be teaching and putting in place for you tomorrow.

Make the decision now to have a zero tolerance policy on working inefficiently and ineffectively. Instead work smarter, by not repeating effort, not making mistakes, and above all else not wasting anything in your practice especially your people, your patients and your own skill.
