Every single month we provide what we call a “patient engagement” theme of the month. It is something that makes being at your Practice, being a ‘customer’ of what you do about more than just dentistry.
That’s the point, for you to get involved in their life and them to bring their life inside of your practice. If you want to create real authentic relationships that cultivate referrals, build trust, and loyalty then you really must do this.
The absolute best way and most important thing you can do is let your Team lead the way. I can tell you, between myself and Kevin (our Executive Director of Team Member Personal Development), there is not a day that goes by, probably not an hour that goes by, where we do not hear from a team member and that team member feels listened to.
They care, they want to win, they want to be more than just an “employee” and above all else they have ideas. Ideas, you understand, that show they want to take initiative to grow and contribute to the practice.
Yet, we don’t take enough time to listen to what they have to say and so they tune out, they get by, the do very little beyond the scope of the dentistry in the schedule, the patient in the chair, or the responsibilities that come with their paychecks.
C’mon. You want to breed independence, you want to empower your people, you want to use your human potential to its greatest capabilities and you want to grow career oriented Team Members – it’s not really that complicated and it doesn’t happen through luck – it happens through listening and letting them do, try, experiment, take ownership of, and pursue things that are important to them.
I hear the most incredible ideas on getting new patients, generating referrals, giving back to the community and going above-and-beyond to create a positive, motivating, first-class culture and experience for patients every single day from committed and very talented team members.
Imagine this, during round table discussions and team communication enhancement meetings I asked them to share something no one else knows about them, a talent, passion, hobby that they have outside of ‘work’, I ask them to share something they are working towards, trying to achieve, most excited about in their life right now.
Do you know…most people never ever know anything ‘extra’ about the people they are working around. What charities they support, what problems they have, what ‘good’ they wish they could do for people around them.
If you want to make the most of the holiday spirit this season, right now, in the remaining half of the month that’s left…
Start a new tradition. Let your team decide how your practice is going to give back, or let every person ‘earn’ the right to help their favorite charity, take turns, expand your reach and influence by using your very best assets you have…your people.
You can easily repeat this throughout the year and in many different ways. Of course I know you are giving away free dentistry and I know you are doing things for the community and I love that. But why stop there…when you get your team involved not just in charity but in their own ideas, in things they want to do and things that are important to them you will be amazed at the passion, purpose and energy they will be created for your practice and patients. This is how you make amazing magic happen.
It’s, as it always is, already right there inside of you, inside of your practice, inside of your people. Tis the season…to do more, be better, listen well, and get your team involved…personally, emotionally, not just professionally and clinically.
This is how you build great committed meaningful teams that elevate your practice to levels of success and significance most never even dream of or imagine possible.
Magic is always in the air and in the hearts, minds and spirits of your people… if you just let it be.
